Designing for the Web
ART302 is, as the name implies, designing for the web. It is about the World Wide Web as a medium of communication, and attempts to employ the best practices of the medium. These practices include separating presentation from content from behaviors, designing for accessibility, employing standards, and creating usable, useful sites. It is not about Flash, blinking headlines, streaming video, or chrome.
This course teaches you to write code. We do not use a WYSIWYG web editor. Learning code enables you to understand what is really going on with your pages. Think of it as empowering. This course is designed to give you the basis for understanding how websites work, an overview (and some considerable detail) as to what the underpinnings are. The course will enable you to learn as you go, giving you the fundamental understanding of the structures involved. This is an important consideration, as the web remains a fluid medium.
