Film Processing
The procedure outlined below assumes a steady agitation- three inversions in 5 seconds. Excessive agitation during development will cause excessive contrast. See the development chart for suggested times/developers.
- Developer (see film development chart for time)
Set timer. Pour in chemistry and agitate continuously for the first 30 seconds, then 5 seconds every 30 seconds. About 15 seconds before the time is up, pour out developer.
- Stop: 1 minute
Do not dilute the stop bath. Use contuous agitation. Pour used stop bath into used stop bath container.
- Fixer: 5-10 minutes
Do not dilute the fixer. Use continuous, vigorous agitation. For TMAX films, fix longer (10 minutes).
- Wash
Remove lid from tank. Fill and dump tank 10 times, with water. For TMAX films, wash longer (20 cycles).
- Hypo-clear (wash aid): 2 minutes
Agitate continuously. For TMAX films, pour used hypo-clear into graduate. If the solution is purplish, repeat steps 4 and 5.
- Wash
Remove lid from tank. Fill and dump tank 20 times, with water.
- Photo-flo (flow aid): 1-2 minutes
Use gentle agitation- about 4 times per minute.
- Dry
Remove reel from tank and snap in sink to remove excess photo-flo. Take reel to loading room, and hang in dryer. Weight bottom with clothes pin. don't take film off reel and examine while wet! The dust you will get all over it will stick, and cause you grief (and bad prints) later on. Just hang it up and go hang out for an hour or so. When it's good and dry (1-2 hours), remove the film from the dryer, cut into strips and put into negative sleeves. Then you can look at them.
